Heroes Rise, forty-fourth entry: Extra Lives and Levels

Welcome, brave adventurers…

… to the forty-fourth entry into our chronicle, recorded on Saturday October 6th 2018, and released Wednesday October 10th 2018 over at heroesrisepodcast.com.

Lennon was due to be back in time for this week’s episode, however the local wizards known as “Easyjet” caused a major weather disturbance instead of teleporting him back; so this week we have RaeRae keeping his seat warm.

This week we have far too much to go through, so we’re going to skip Adventurer’s packs and check out some D&D news as we bring you coverage of:

  • Halloween Adventures from the DDAL and DDB
  • Some spoilers from Dungeon of the mad mage.
  • And WotC’s Extra Life Fundraising, including an exclusive ampersand t-shirt and a standalone enchilada

After that we take a Short Rest and look through the Archives of Candlekeep for the first part of our D&D retrospective series, before finally looking into the scrying pool to see what you have to say.

A Short Rest: Archives of Candlekeep: In The Beginning…
mThis Week’s Community Questions
Are the sub-par D&D Beyond adventures just growing pains that need to be ironed out, or do they need to scrap the 3rd party submissions and go back to official content only
Do you have any thoughts on the new Dungeon of the Mad Mage spoiler
Were you around for, or have you played the original edition of D&D? You have any fond memories or horror stories of things “back in the day?”

Do I remember the original edition of D&D? I can turn around where I’m sitting and pull the little 3-ring binder out that has Chainmail, Men & Magic, Monsters & Treasure, Underworld & Wilderness, followed by Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldritch Wizardry, Gods, Demi-Gods, and Heroes, and the Ardruin Grimoire. I remember buying them when I was a college student. It was pleasant to hear the history recounted.

By the way, if anyone has heard of a PDF document floating out there in the Interwebs called “Original Dungeons & Dragons Consolidated Rules”, I did that. It was made available under the Gnu General Public License. That was a long time ago…
