Heroes Rise, ninth entry: Raerae’s First Adventure

Welcome, brave adventurers…

… to the ninth entry into the Heroes Rise chronicle. This episode was recorded on Saturday, 20th January 2018, and made available for download on Wednesday, 24th January 2018 at heroesrisepodcast.com

Unfortunately Ryu rolled a 1 on her Constitution save and has been Diseased for 1d6 days. Ryu, if you’re listening, (and may I remind you you’re contractually obligated to) we miss you and wish you the speediest of recoveries! In the meantime, good listeners of the multiverse, you get to listen to Raerae, our Social Media Mage! To start the show off, we dig into our Adventurer’s Packs and this time Lennon teaches us how to spell! Then we take a look at some D&D News as we cover:

  • WotC new designer
  • Neverwinter’s latest story module
  • And the latest updates to D&D Beyond

After that we take a Short Rest and hear some Wisdom from the Masters as we bring you the final part of our series on using Weather in your games; before finishing off the show by looking into the Scrying Pool to see what you have to say

Good gracious! I had no idea I’d be missed. Thanks for the shout-out. Rest assured, I’m listening like a hawk… or would that be a werebat?

Who knew Raerae would literally be a hero rising to the occasion of co-hosting? Huzzah. Hats off to Mikey for doing yeoman’s work on her audio.

I’ve started keeping notes on my favourite soundbites from the show. “There’s no donkeys in Tomb of Annihilation as far as I know.” from Lennon this week is now a close second to Ryu’s “Dragons make me happy. What can I say?” (t-shirt worthy) from the blooper reel of the seventh entry in the chronicle.

On to your community questions! I love D&D Beyond. I mostly ignore homebrewed content there, other than my own, and it’s been great making all of my resources on the site available to my players – particularly through the character creation process. WotC continue to make improvements and my experiences and I’m very optimistic for the future of the product. And, for the sake of clarity, I consider UA and Critical Role content the Homebrews of WotC Staff and Matt Mercer, respectively. What’s best for their tables isn’t necessarily what’s best for mine.

…wait…the Blood Hunter is somewhere between a Dragon Age Grey Warden and Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witchers (that’s pronounced AHN-jay Sahp-KOV-ski, for non-Poles). Might be a tall order roleplay-wise if you don’t have a cultural analog like those, but sounds kinda cool. I guess I have yet another reason to start listening to Critical Role.

Back to D&D Beyond… I’ve also been using and giving feedback on the mobile alpha and it’s an absolute delight having all of the sourcebooks available digitally – searchable, linked, and available offline on my phone and tablet. The app is such a massive upgrade from even the best-formatted PDFs I’ve used for other RPGs.

Thanks for another great entry in the chronicle. Get well soon, Ryu!

Haha Thanks, Marty! I hope my crappy mic and chipmunk voice didn’t ruin it too much. 😀 Glad you enjoyed, and happy to hear from you this week.
