Heroes Rise, twenty-fourth entry: Dungeons and Drowgons

Welcome, brave adventurers…

… to the twenty-fourth entry into the Heroes Rise chronicle. This episode was recorded on Saturday, 12th May 2018, and made available for download on Wednesday, 16th May 2018 at heroesrisepodcast.com

First up, Lennon shows us something that sounds like it’d be good for our Adventurer’s Packs. That does make sense, you’ll have to trust us. Next we check out some D&D News as we cover:

  • The latest hires at WotC
  • The new videos from D&D Beyond on designing subclasses and the newest Adventurer’s League module that’s kicking off Tome of Foes
  • And the latest preview chapters from Tome of Foes, even though it’s almost here

After that we take a Short Rest and peek into the Gnomish Workshop for a lesson in Bounded Accuracy, before finally looking into the scrying pool to see what you have to say.

mThis Week’s Community Questions
Have you tried designing your own D&D subclass? Or have you used a homebrew one before? How did it work out?
Whether from the leaks or from your very own copy, we want to know what you think of the MTOF material. What was amazing? What did they get so, so wrong?

Lennon!

I used to use audio in my games, but I reached a point where different people were getting different moods from the same piece of music. For example, I used some music from the video game Dragon Age: Origins, one person recognized and liked the game and enjoyed the ambiance. Another person recognized the piece and didn’t like the game and did not enjoy the atmosphere. A third person just thought it was boring music and was visibly more bored having to listen to it. What do I do? Help?

Thanks,
Hy.

My Morderkainen comment isn’t about the book itself but what it represents to the AL community. I run a game store and many players don’t want to play AL because of the PHB+1 restriction. They aren’t as excited about this book because they won’t be able to use it if they are already using their +1. The more books you put out with cool stuff that players can’t use the more they will resent you as a company. I have noticed players aren’t coming to my AL night as frequently, but are coming to my open RPG nights. I will still sell the book but the Adventurers League as an event is slowing down.
I don’t understand the strict PHB+1 adherence. Players need to be limited so things don’t get out of hand *cough* Pathfinder *cough*. What they don’t need is a carrot dangling in front of them thay can never get.

On a different note. I love tabletopaudio. It is a great site. Thanks Lennon
