Welcome, brave adventurers…
… to the first entry into the Heroes Rise chronicle. This episode was recorded on Saturday, 25th November 2017, and made available for download on Wednesday, 29th November 2017 at heroesrisepodcast.com
This week, Lennon, Ostron and Ryu gather together to bring you a show that the crime-lord of Waterdeep used his only Wish spell to get!
First of all, we bring you a tool for your Adventurer’s Packs for when you need to generate a character quicker than you can say “hey, what level should I make that Paladin?”. Then we take a look at some D&D news as we bring you the highs and lows of Xanathar’s Guide to Everything.
Next, we take a Short Rest as Lennon discovers the true meaning of Thanksgiving and Baxter is sent for racial sensitivity training; before finally finishing off the show by asking our resident Illithid about fudging the dice.
- Fast Character
- Xanathar’s Guide to Everything
- This week’s DragonTalk
- Unearthed Arcana: Elf Subraces
- Neverwinter Zen Winter Bonus Rewards
- Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition
A Short Rest: Tips from the Adventurer’s Journals
This Week’s Community Questions
[edgt_blockquote text=”Well, it’s all we’ve talked about today so it should come as no surprise that we want to hear your views on XGE. What were your high and low points? Are there any classes or mechanics that you’re just dying to try out? What’s your preference — small expansions to everything, or would you prefer more of a single-focus book? No matter what your views, we’d love to hear from you.” title_tag=”h2″ width=””]

I do really like that Wizards has limited itself to one “expansion book” per year. The last two books (Sword Coast and Volo’s) had precious few player options, but they still didn’t feel like a rip-off when you’re only buying one per year.
Wizards also seems very concerned about players abusing the rules to become TOO powerful. They recommend the “PHB+1” rule, which keeps players from cherry-picking race/subclass/feat/spell options from a bunch of different books. And they resisted the temptation to add a host of new combat feats in Xanathar’s, which would have been a feast for min/maxers.
Here’s an interesting discussion topic: As DMs, why do we hate it when players min/max?
Hey there. Just found the Pod and it is cool. I have an opposing view as to the PHB+1. It should go away… for now. There isn’t enough content to warrant this exclusion. 5E isn’t like 3E with a source book every month. 1 to 2 a year isn’t too many. I don’t like the fact that I can’t use Volo’s and XGE together. What would be so bad about a Goblin Horizonwalker. Everything van be abused. It’s the DM’s job to reign in players.
